The Butterflies have decided during their pupil voice planning session this week that they would like to create sea creatures out of mobilo as they felt this would allow them to make moving parts. It has been very successful with lots of creative and imaginative ideas about how best to create these animals. Here you can see the boys have made a jellyfish, anemone, starfish, crab, flying fish and a whale!
Well done Butterflies for doing such a fantastic job at the Foundation Phase Sports Day! It was lovely to see everyone enjoying themselves and trying their best (even in the rain!)!
We have been practising reading familiar words in Welsh with our new Helpwr Heddiw game 'Sblat!'- it's lots of fun!
Captain Coole kick started our pirate party this afternoon by christening our new pirate ship role play area with a 'bottle of Champagne'! We dressed up as pirates and had a fantastic time playing pirate games and eating party food. Thank you for all food donations and the brilliant costumes!
We have started our new topic 'Land Ahoy!' this week in the Butterflies class and have discovered lots of fun pirate themed tasks in our enhanced provision today! This topic is all about pirates, mermaids, under the sea, the seaside, fish and more.
The Easter Bunny left us an egg hunt to complete today in our beautiful new outdoor classroom! On such a sunny day, we had a fabulous time and we thought we were pretty good at hunting eggs! Happy Easter everyone!
We've been learning how to tell the time this week in digital and analogue formats. We've been learning about o'clock and half past. As you can see below, we've done lots of fun activities in our enhanced provision, as well as playing What's the time Mr.Wolf?, doing a time treasure hunt to crack a secret code and helped Bob (from the 'Man on the Moon' book) to remember what he needs to do and when!
We had our Foundation Phase Eisteddfod today which went brilliantly! We had lots of fun, sang Welsh songs and watched the winning performances from the Key Stage 2 Eisteddfod. We also paraded through the juniors on our way to the hall this morning and felt like celebrities! We showed our art work and leeks and then winners were announced for each class. Thank you so much to you all for the effort put into the leeks at home- they were amazing!
Today, the Butterflies have been working on their Eisteddfod art competition entries by 'blow-painting' their own aliens. We used blobs of watery paint and then blew through a straw over the top of them to mix the colours together. After that, we added googly eyes and paper mouths to finish them off.
Thank you so much for all of the hard work that has obviously gone into every pupil's home task over half term! Fantastic job! We really appreciate the effort put into these models! We will be putting them up on display in the corridor outside our classroom next week and will post better photos then!
The aliens have a problem... they can't get back to their planet! One of the Butterflies suggested we could make a bridge between Earth and their planet so that they could walk across. We tested lots of ways in which we could manipulate materials (in this case newspaper) to make it stronger. Once we had investigated different ways of doing this, we made various bridges and stacked 'aliens' on top of them until they collapsed to see which bridge was the strongest.
The 2 digit numbers have gone missing! We've had to work hard to find them on number lines, 100 squares, in the construction area, on our graffiti wall and in the Numicon. We have been practising partitioning the numbers too, to make it easier for the Numberjacks to understand of course.
We learned about how to keep our personal information safe on the internet today with Mr Protheroe and the E-cadets. We created collages to show what we like to put on the internet, but did not include our personal information! Can you guess who created each of these posters below?
We have a new role play area in outer space! We can pretend to be on Earth at the NASA headquarters, astronaughts in their space shuttles or an alien doing a moon walk!
This week we have started our new topic called 'One giant leap for mankind', which is all about space. The first book we are reading is 'Aliens Love Underpants' which is great fun! If you can do any research at home, please do so and share it with the class.
The Butterflies did a fantastic job in the Christmas show last week and they made us very proud. We wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy new year!
The Butterflies will be a part of a Christmas show this year with the Dragonflies and the Ladybirds. The show is called 'Ralph the Reindeer' and we have enjoyed starting to learn all of the lovely songs! Tickets are now on sale, so please send in your form to indicate how many tickets you want to request and on which performance date.
The Butterflies will be playing the parts of the elves, reindeer, dolls, fairies, teddy bears and toy soldiers. These are non speaking parts, but will include lots of singing and dancing! Please could you provide a costume for your child appropriate to their role, and bring it into school as soon as possible in a bag with your child's name on it. Thank you for your continued support.
