Urdd Eisteddfod 2023

County round- Saturday 25th March 2023

Please see the information from our local Urdd representative about the Eisteddfod county round that will be taking part on Saturday 25th March for the competitors who had 1st and 2nd place in the regional round last week.

You will need to make your own way to the venue (Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda) with your child on Saturday- once there, you are welcome to spectate if you wish or you will be able to leave your child with Mrs Labanciw if you are unable to stay and she will call you as soon as your child has finished performing. We do not need to stay for the entire day, just for our performances, so as soon as your child has performed you will be able to leave/pick your child up.

The Year 2 recitations are item 10, the group recitation is item 13 and the Year 3/4 recitation is item 16 on the itinerary for the day. This means that despite the Eisteddfod starting at 10am, we think it is a safe bet for all of our competitors to arrive by 11am. As children are able to leave after performing, you will not need to bring packed lunches like last time.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss any of the plans for Saturday with us, please fill out the form below and we will get back to you as soon as we can. Thank you!

Information from the Urdd for the county round

Prynhawn da,

I am writing to you concerning the Urdd Regional Eisteddfod for Primary schools in the Cymoedd Morgannwg area, which will be held at the Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda (SAT NAV - CF39 9EP) on Saturday 25th of March, starting at 10am. Please read the below information carefully.

PROGRAMME
Attached is a draft copy of the programme. We’ve noted next to the competition number, how many are competing. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to work out times for each competition, but this should give you an idea. Please make sure you arrive early, it’s not possible to re-arrange the programme. If you are late, we won’t be able to wait for you. Please remember that this is a draft and that things could change before the Eisteddfod.

Please note that the individual / group that come 1st in each competition will represent the Cymoedd Morgannwg region in the Eisteddfod yr Urdd National round in Llandovery, Carmarthenshire between the 29th of May and the 3rd of September.

Points to remember:
  • Please note that it’s the school’s/parents’ responsibility to look after the children during the day. It’s important that the children don’t run around outside or inside the building and that they stay in the Theatre or building.
  • There will be an official accompanist for competitions 1,2,3 and 4 in the prelims and the Eisteddfod. Each individual will have a chance to practice 1-2 lines in each of these 4 competitions, before they perform. This rule only applies to these 4 competitions. You will not be allowed to practice lines in any of the other vocal competitions.
  • Competitors and their teachers can enter the Eisteddfod for free. Parents, family and others will be asked to pay £5 per adult.
Refreshments – There will be a café serving light refreshments available on the day. In addition, there will be a van selling tea and coffee. Please make sure parents and competitors take advantage of these services.

Parking - Please use the cod post CF39 9EP (NOT 9HA). This route will lead you through High Street, Trebanog, with the entrance to the school taking you straight into the car park. You will then need to walk down to the Glynrhedyn building by walking down the blue gates. There will be signs around the site on the day.

I will be sending a list of the competitions in which your school is competing in during the next couple of days.

Thank you for your cooperation and your continued support. We will see you at the Eisteddfod!
