For Our topics so far have been:
Blood, Bones and Gory Bits!
This was a Science-based topic all about the human body. We enjoyed learning about our organs and the important jobs they all do. We especially liked making a working model of the digestive system! We used our new knowledge during ICT lessons to create wiki pages on hwb+ all about our organs.
In PE we learnt about the effect that exercise has on our bodies, and why it is important to exercise regularly. We learnt how to talk about different body parts and illnesses in Welsh, and to answer the questions 'Beth s'yn bod?' and 'Sut wyt ti'n teimlo?' ('What's the matter?' and 'How are you feeling?')
We were visited by a school nurse, Nurse Kate, who spoke to us about her job. In History we learnt about the life of Florence Nightingale and compared her job and equipment to Nurse Kate's.
We had a fantastic time on our school trip to Techniquest, where we watched their 'Human Body Show'.
Our Second topic was a Geography based topic in which we had to travel around the world (with the help of atlases and google earth!) to find out where our food comes from. We learnt about different food groups, and how to eat healthily using the 'eatwell plate'. We used this knowledge to design pizza toppings and used our Maths skills to work out the costs of buying ingredients for the whole class.
During our English lessons, we read about what life is like for children living in other countries. We also really enjoyed finding out how Christmas is celebrated around the world. Did you know that a popular Christmas dinner in Japan is KFC?
Wanted: Space Explorers!
Our spring term topic is a Science topic all about Space. So far we have enjoyed a visit from the Techniquest StarLab which took us on a tour of the universe, visiting all the of the planets.
We have been thinking about the qualities needed by astronauts and researching the lives of famous astronauts Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Tim Peake. We have used this research to write biographies and diary entries in our English lessons.
As well as research, in ICT we have created powerpoint presentations showing the history of space travel. Did you know that monkeys and dogs have been sent to space?
