Urdd Eisteddfod 2020
Update: As the Urdd Eisteddfod is now postponed due to the Covid-19 crisis, the Urdd will be hosting the Eisteddfod T event instead! See http://s4c.urdd.cymru/en/ for details!
Darran Park is entering the National Urdd Eisteddfod again this year and this is where you will find all the information you need to help your child prepare if they are to take part.
The Urdd Eisteddfod is the biggest Welsh Language Festival in Wales and hundreds of schools take part across the country. The finals of the Eisteddfod will take place in Denbighshire this year, but there are several preliminary rounds to get through before this. The finals are televised on S4C. We will be entering the group poetry recital and the individual poetry recital, as well as the 2D art competition. The performing entries will be learner categories, so our second language pupils will be competing against other second language leaners.

First Round
The first round of the Eisteddfod will be held in the Parc and Dare Theatre in Treorchy on Saturday 13th March. The Eisteddfod will be starting at 9am, so if you could get your child to school by 8.15, that would be much appreciated. Spectators are able to buy tickets on the door to the theatre: adults £4, children £1.50. All competitors enter for free, as the school has already paid for their registration fees for the Urdd.
*UPDATE 11/03/20* We have now received the schedule for the day- we have now been told that it starts at 9.30am and because our children are not competing until item 7, we are not going to go to the venue until 10.30am to prevent pupils waiting around. This means you can BRING PUPILS TO SCHOOL AS USUAL BY 8.45am. We should be back at school by 3pm. The spectator tickets are sold on a first come, first serve basis, however, I have been led to believe that the turn out might not be as high as previous years as it is on a weekday which hopefully means there will be plenty of tickets available! Please can children also bring a packed lunch.
Please see below the schedule for the Eisteddfod- remember that the learner categories have a (D) next to them and the numbers down the side are the number of competitors. Apologies that we cannot give more specific times for your child's competition, but the following information is all that we have. Thank you for your understanding.
