eCadet Project

This is the video our Digital Leaders and eCadets made explaining what a 'Digital Footprint' is. We sent it to Llandough primary school in Cardiff and they sent us a video back explaining the dangers of not looking after your digital footprint. Our next job is to create a quiz to send back to them to make sure they know the right decisions to make to stay safe online.

Exploring the galaxy with Techniquest!

11/1/2017

Today something strange was in the hall. It looked like a big black dome. It was the Techniquest Starlab!

We went inside the Starlab and explored the planets, the galaxy, asteroids and stars. It was like we were really in space!

We learnt lots of facts about space. Such as:

Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first astronauts to walk on the moon.
Mars is called the red planet and it is cold there.
The biggest star in the universe is called Beetlejuice.
The Romans saw pictures in the stars in the sky. They are called constellations.

It was really fun but we felt a bit dizzy when we came out after all that whizzing around the universe!

Today we took part in the Skype-athon challenge. Our class had to communicate with another school using Skype, and to guess which country they were calling us from.

We had to ask the class questions which could be answered 'yes' or 'no' and they asked us questions about our country.

We asked questions like:

Do you live in Europe?

Does your country have a hot climate?

Do you live close to the equator?

Does your flag have green on it?

In the end, our class guessed that their country was India and we won!

We really enjoyed using Skype and we hope we can speak to more children in other countries.

Basketball with Missy Lender

This half term the Squirrels class really enjoyed having some Basketball taster sessions with specialist coach Missy Lender. The children learnt how to dribble, pass and shoot (guess which was their favourite to practice?) Missy also set them some silly challenges. Here are some photos of the children trying to keep the ball bouncing whilst kneeling, sitting and even lying down! This was really tricky but everyone had great fun trying it! Diolch yn fawr Missy!

Writing Explanation Texts

28/9/2016

In English we have been learning about explanation texts. We started by reading an explanation about how dishwashers really work. We sat on the carpet and read it together and used actions to help us remember it. It was quite funny. Then Miss Mills videoed it.

Wallace and Gromit sent us a letter. The evil chicken stole all of Wallace's machines and so he asked us to write explanations about his inventions so he can build them again for the convention on Friday. We chose to write about the Autochef which is a machine that makes your breakfast for you. We have started to write our explanations to send to Wallace.

Investigating our joints.

When we were doing Science earlier we were trying to do stuff with out bending our wrist and elbow joints. The challenges were writing your name, eating a marshmallow, putting our hand up, tying your shoe lace up and putting glasses on without bending our arms. Before we did all the challenges we had to predict if we could do it. If you thought you could do it you would put down yes and if you didn’t think you could do it you would put down no. We could do some of the things like writing our names and putting our hands up but some things were impossible. We couldn't eat a marshmallow or put glasses on without bending our arms. We found out that it was hard to do things without moving your joints!

Our first 2 weeks in school

We have been really busy since we started back at school! Our new topic is Blood, Bones and Gory Bits. It is all about our bodies. The first thing we did was draw around our bodies and then we filled in the bones and organs that we knew already.

We then started to learn more about our skeletons. We measured the sizes of different bones in our bodies and learnt the names of them, and the jobs that they do (move, support or protect). We used different sizes and shapes of pasta to make our own skeletons.

In our Literacy lessons we have enjoyed reading the story of Doctor Frankenstein, who was lonely and created his own friend. We have been focusing on using fantastic vocabulary when we re-told the story and wrote descriptions of Frankenstein’s monster.

We started swimming lessons this week. This year, as well as developing our swimming skills we are also going to learn some basic lifesaving skills to keep us safe in and around water. Remember to bring swimming kits every Wednesday!

In Welsh we have been taking it in turns to be ‘helpwr heddiw’. This means that you help the class to practice and improve their Welsh by playing language games every day. We have been learning the Welsh words for different body parts and to ask and answer the question ‘Beth sy’n bod?’ (what’s the matter?).
