School Council trip to the Senedd

12/1/2016

On Wednesday 6th January all of the School Council went on a very important trip to the Welsh Assembly Government building called the Senedd in Cardiff Bay. We held our own meeting using microphones, and also talked about the kind of things the Welsh Assembly Government talk about like safety, weather and money.

On our visit we saw a new law for not being allowed to smoke in cars where there are children.  This Law had the Queen’s signature on it with a wax stamp.  We also had a tour of the building and saw all the rooms where our Government make some important decisions for Wales.

All the School Council enjoyed, it was a very interesting trip. We learned lots and we would love to go back again.

The school council's trip to the Senedd

We went to the Senedd today and had the privilege of holding a school council meeting in the very fancy Ty Hywel chamber! We sat in comfortable leather seats and had personal microphones that we had to speak into when it was our turn to talk. We really enjoyed discussing the topic of homework and made interesting points. Olwen, our guide, was impressed by how well we undertook the meeting and how sensible we were. We then had a tour around the Senedd itself and did a quiz in the building's classroom... and to top it off it didn't rain! Hooray! What a fabulous day and the school council represented Darran Park Primary brilliantly- da iawn!

The school council elections

22/9/2015

We held our school council elections this week which were very exciting! Everyone who wanted to become a representative had to write a manifesto and present it to their class. Then every pupil in the juniors cast a vote into the ballot box and was registered. These votes were then counted and verified and the two candidates with the highest votes won their class' election. Thank you to the Head Boy and Girl for helping to run the election- fab job! Congratulations to the new school council representatives.
